Basic Functions That Must Be Set Before Running the Servo Motor

In our previous article titled “Making Servo Motor Cable Connections,” we shared with you what needs to be done for servo motor cable connections. In this article, we have compiled the basic functions that need to be performed before starting the servo motor. We aimed to make it explanatory at a basic level; we hope it will be useful for you.

Display for Servo Motor Parameters

Depending on whether the servo motor parameter requires a numerical setting, there are two types of displays used for the parameters.


Initializing Servo Motor Parameter Settings
You can reset the servo motor’s parameter settings to their default values. This function does not initialize the FN009, Fn00A, Fn00B auxiliary program function parameter settings. Important Warning: To activate the settings made on the servo motor, turn off the servo motor’s power supply after completing the procedures, then turn it back on again.

Preparations;

Before starting the servo motor parameter, you should always check the following settings.

*The writing of parameters should not be prohibited.

*The servo must be turned off.

Servo Motor Control Method Selection

You can use the servo motor control device for speed control, position control, or torque control.


Automatic Detection of the Connected Servo Motor
You can use the servo package to operate a rotary servo motor or a linear servo motor. If you connect the servo motor encoder to the CN3 connector on the servo motor, it will automatically detect which servo motor is connected. Therefore, you will not need to specify the motor type separately.


Function and Settings for the /S-ON (Servo ON) Signa



The /S-ON (Servo ON) signal is used to activate servo motor operation.

The section, function, and settings you have selected describe the S-ON signal.

/Functions Required for the S-ON Signal



1-To start the servo motor, you must enter the /S-ON signal before entering the speed, position, or torque reference. To start the servo motor before entering the reference, you can use the /S-ON signal or the ON button on the AC power supply.

2-To stop the servo motor, you must use the /S-ON input signal. You cannot turn it on while the servo motor is running.

Settings Required to Keep the Servo Motor Open and Provide Continuous Power to the Servo Motor



When you set this parameter to keep the servo continuously in the open position, power will be supplied to the servo motor when the main circuit power supply is turned on. If there is a set speed, position, and torque reference input value, the servo motor or machine may perform an unexpected operation. Therefore, you should always apply safety precautions. If a resettable alarm occurs and the alarm is reset, the operation is disabled. If you set this parameter to keep the servo motor continuously in the open position, the servo motor may operate unexpectedly when the alarm is reset.
